Drawing in Capture

 All,

One thing I've always been frustrated by is drawing symbols in Capture. I've been relying on finding a symbol that looks similar and adapting the symbol to my use. For example, I needed to draw a XOR gate. I used two Bezier curves to draw the first two curves (see attachment) but can't get the arcs to cooperate to finsh up the symbol. I used Mentor Graphics DxDesigner for quite a long time and could create proper looking symbols quickly. Does anyone out their have the "special sauce" to create symbols effectively? Are there any unpublished commands (e.g. SHIFT-arc) that will ecpedite my requirements?

Make the Bounding box a lot larger than the graphics that you want to create and resize it back to the required size to bound the graphics once completed. Use control+left-click+drag to copy objects, if you get one arc as required, you can take a copy with this combination. Take a look at the 74LS86 in the Gate.olb, this was created before the Bezier curve option was added. Also take a look at the Quick Reference Card, capqrc.pdf in the doc\capqrc directory of the installation, this lists all the keyboard commands for the various editing modes in Capture.

To be able to effectively draw the XOR symbol using Bezier curves you might want to do the following: 1. Draw a bezier curve using the control points as shown in the attached image 2. Bring up the Preferences dialog (Options->Preferences), navigate to the "Grid Display" tab and un-check the "Pointer snap to grid" option under the "Part and Symbol Grid" section. 3. Copy the Bezier curve and paste it. You can now move it off-grid to better align with the existing Bezier curve 4. Before placing the pins ensure that you have the "Pointer snap to grid" option back on. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your input. Please be aware I was only starting with two Beziers. I was having trouble with the arcs I needed to create the rest of the XOR symbol.

    Regards,
