Gerber file with different extension

C Shiva

 Hi All,

We got a reply from a Fab house at Taiwan as bellow,

"There gerber files we need are separated by layer to layer for PCB manufacturer to produce.

The gerber files are having the extension . apr, .DRL, .DRR, .GBL, .GBO., .GBS.,…….etc.

Please provide these files to us."

But i didn't find such files except .DRL in our Allegro PCB design L v16.01 tool. Is it the extension of gerber files generated by other tools like PAD's, Zauken?

Any input will be appreciated.

Thanks and Best regards,

Shiva.

By default, the PCB Editor Gerber files all all have the same ART file extension. You can change the extension from Setup>User Preferences, File Management, Versioning, ext_artwork. You can also specify a film name that includes a file extension, in which case this will override the "ext_artwork". Note that the artwork film names are restricted to 17 characters, the prefix / suffix from the General Parameters tab will then be added if specified.

Those particular gerber/drill file extensions are standard output from the Altium tool.

But yes from Allegro they would all be .art as standard.

I would be surprised someone set Allegro to output as standard Altium outputs?

That fab house should be able to read them in as separate files no matter what the extension is.

as long as they are in fact gerber format files, if output is gerber 274X no aperture file is needed

but if older format 274D is used the aperture file will also be needed to read them in.

I really don't see what they are asking you for, they want them all in Altium fomat?

Or with all unique extensions like Altium does?

Or if you are asking how to output from Allegro, I think Oldmouldy got it for you.

You should be able to set name output as you like with limitations.

Thanks all to your kind reply.

As Oldmouldy say, i didn't find any more options at Setup>User Preferences>File Management and think its tool version problem since we having Allegro PCB design L v16.01
