How to integrate parts from one brd file to another brd file

Hello all,

Thank you for dropping in to my post.

I am new to OrCad PCB Editor, so please excuse me if I am asking easy questions.

I have built a DDR3 circuit on OrCad PCB Editor and I am trying to paste and integrate the whole design to my main board design which is in another brd file. My questions is how to copy and paste parts or the whole design from one brd file to another file.

Are there any tutorial pdfs or videos?

I really appreciate if anyone can tell me a brief summary.

Thanks!

You could use the DDR3 BRD file as a starting point and load the Logic onto it, note RefDes's would need to match in the Logic.

If you have a 16.5 Professional license, you could use Placement Edit Application Mode and create a module from the DDR3 BRD data, select items, Place Replicate Create - you can select the etch as well. In the target board, select the items in the canvas and Place Replicate Apply. Note - Cross-Section needs to match.

Otherwise use File>Export>Sub-drawing, use a Temp Group to select the disparate items, specify an origin, and create a CLP file. In the target board, File>Import>Sub-drawing and assign the RefDes's - note cross-section needs to match.

Hello OldMoudly, Thank you so much for your advice and sorry for the late reply. I have tried your approach (application mode->placement edit), but it can only copy the traces on the first layer but not the layers underneath. If I have a 6 layers design, do I need to apply the placement edit feature on each single layer to copy all the components and traces? Thanks!
