You cannot lmstat a Client PC, lmstat will only work on the license server process, wherever that is.

IF you want to check the license server status from a client, the easiest way is to copy the "LicenseManager" directory from the server to the client. You can delete many of the files but starting with "everything" will ensure that nothing vital is missing in the first instance, It doesn't really matter too much where you store the files as long as the structure is maintained, at least to begin with. Start a Command Prompt and CD to the directory containing the copied License Manager files, at the Command Prompt type "lmutil lmstat -c <license_source>", like "lmutil lmstat -c 5280@<servername>", see the license manager documentation for other lmstat switches. This will get the current license status from the specified license source, local or remote machine. (Default Cadence License Manager port assumed in example)

You only need to copy it once to run this but you do need to copy the directory to each client who wants to get the status from the server, also bear in mind that this will apply some small load to the server as the status is requested.

Another way is to create a batch file to run the lmstat on the server and then copy the results to a public folder for the users to view. Even if a user deletes the results file, another one will be created when the lmstat / copy process is run. If you schedule this for about every 5 minutes on the server, the license status will be reasonably "fresh" and the server load will be minimal. The formatting of the lmstat is not overly readable but this is  a "free" solution.

     I haven't tested this with 16.5.

Check out lmadmin, the new flex environment from Flexera.  Works with Mac address and USB key'd license files at the same time.

     http://www.globes.com/support/fnp_utilities_download.htm

Sun JAVA runtime required to install. Includes a demo daemon that allows you to get familiar with lmadmin before doing real stuff.

Flexadmin is lmgrd with the addition of a web server UI that allows us to update and installing license files and check token usage.

So far, the only vendors it doesn't like is IBM Rational (who has an entirely unique approach to flex).  If you use Downstream's Blueprint or CAM350, their latest vendor daemon doesn't play nice either.  Stick with the included lmgrd.

The only surprise is I haven't figured out how to leave the TCP port in the license file.  You use the GUI to set the port for each vendor daemon.
