Capture complains design is opened read only when it is not

Hello everybody,

For some weird reason, OrCAD Capture complains that the design file is opened read only, even when it is not.

If I right-click the .dsn file in explorer, and click properties, the read-only checkbox is not checked.  I can rename, copy and delete the file no problem (I have a backup).  If I delete the opj file, and open the .dsn, at first, things are fine - I can edit and save.  I then close the application, and the .opj file appears.  When I open the .opj file, OrCAD capture complains that the file is read only.  What the heck is going on?

Is there some obscure option I have selected by mistake?  Has anyone had this happen before?

Any help appreciated.

    Allan,

    Check the properties on the *.DBK file.  If it is read only you will not be able to save the *.DSN.

    Thanks for the suggestion.  Unfortunately, there is no DBK file at all when this happens; I do not think that is the issue.

     I did some playing around and found out that this seems to happen if the extended option to save the file in uppercase is turned off.  That seems like a bug in the software.

     If I turn on the option (the program crashes sometimes when I do this), then I open the original dsn file, the problem goes away.  Apparently, I cannot get the software to save the dsn file in lowercase.  It must be saved in all uppercase or there are problems.  Does that make sense to anybody?

    Allan, you are absolutely correct!
    This problem has plagued me for a year, ever since I discovered the extended preferences menu (which is a difficult enough task and the reason why few people report this problem).
    It is still a problem in OrCAD version 16.5.

    And your solution works!

    NEVER uncheck the box that says "Save design name as UPPERCASE" in OrCAD Capture or you will be befuddled.
    By default, the box is checked. 
    Only when you start playing with TCL scripts will you happen to discover how to make OrCAD capture behave irrationally.

    For 16.5, this issue was actually corrected in hotfix 5, issued at the end of August 2011. The current, default, design save functionality saves the design in the original filename case, whatever mix of upper and lower case that might be.
