Next question: How can I redirect where PCB Editor looks for padstacks?

New 16.5 user............

Following the tutorial on how to make a footprint in Mitzners book. I made a padstack and saved it in a custom padstacks directory. When I go to place it into my part, the only available padstacks that come up are the ones that are provided with 16.5. I can not figure out how to change where it looks for padstacks. There is a button with the three ... in the padstacks window that will normally allow you to point to a different file / directory, but that does not work. My only choice is the default padstack directory. Another simple thing making me feel real stupid.....................

    Hi Tom,

It sounds like you haven't set up your padpath under setup --> User Preferences Editor --> Paths --> Library and then set up your psmpath for your footprints and the padpath for your padstacks.  Make sure you have the Expand button checked.  It reads top to bottom so make sure the padstacks you want to use are at the top of the list, just under ../symbols.  I remove all the paths to the Cadence share adn just point to my library to avoid confusion.

Ultimately this just sets up a path in your env file so you could just modify the env file if you are familiar with that.  When I do new setups for people I just copy my env file since we are pointing to the same library.  And you get all the other User Preferences copied at one time.
