.CAD GENCAD ASCII File - PICK and PLACE

Hello,

I recently sent over gerber files to the board house and they are asking me for the GENCAD .CAD file for placing components. I know Orcad Layout generated this file, but I'm not sure what it is I can give the board house from Orcad PCB Editor v16.5 so that they can continue building the boards.

PCB Editor Generates many reports, which one will the board house need for placing the components? How do I get the report?

They have been able to succesfully build/drill the PCBs with the files I've sent them, but they are missing the .CAD for placing the components, shouldn't they be able to get the info they need from the gerber files?

     Try file->export->placement

    This file is not any specific format but your assy should have the ability to make sense out of it.

    Hello,

    This thread may be of interest to you:

    /forums/p/11734/15174.aspx#15174

    I responded with the details on how to extract the ASCII files from Allegro (OrCAD 16.3 = Allegro 16.3) that can be read in CADCAM.  These outputs are normally refered to as GENCAD ASCII Files.  Also Ole responded with some SKILL code that he created to generate a .CAD file for CircuitCAM.

    Most likely if they are looking for ASCII Files then they will need the ASCII extract files I described but I would generate both outputs to see which files they prefer.

    Hope this helps,
