How to make Orcad PCB / Allegro remember the editing mode you are in ? is it possible

Hi

I am finding some productivity issues with the general editing modes in Allegro Orcad PCB , Perhaps someone can offer advice or some tips.

By way of an example. Assume for a sec I need to edit the size of multiple dynamic shapes. What I do is hit the select shape icon and click the shape and peform the edit. Very easy to do. My issue is when I click done the editor does not remember that I was in the mode of selecting a shape. This means for every shape I edit I have to click that select shape icon again to re instate what my intention is.

This is becomming really tiresome, so many clicks to do I guess some simple stuff. It is pretty much the same when it comes to placement and etch editing to some degree. I seem to be spending alot of time clicking to get things done. Now it is possible for me to create a macro to do this but that seems kind of like over kill.

When placing components on the board I choose placement edit then select move to move the component into place. This works fine but if I click done I am no longer in the move mode and I got to go click the move icon again. Instead of clicking done if i just LMB click the component and then move on to another component I can move that one but the first component remains highlighted. Things just seem to be working backwards for me from what I am used to with other editors hence the productivity hit. I would think clicking done means I am just done or finished placing a particular part but not done with the actual placement of parts.

Can anyone give me some pointers or could it be that the product is not designed to remember the edit mode you are in beyond etch edit general edit mode etc. The tool seems to work well but how it does what it does just seems not very intuitive for some critical editing functions.

Thanks Scott

     hi scott,

for multiple shape edit, you just to RMB>next, then you can edit other shape size then before clicking Done. If your intention is changing shape type, go to SHAPE > Change shape type.  You can continuously change shape. Hope this helps.

    Have a nice day!

    Regards,

    eric

Try selecting "next" instead of "done".  For repetitive edits I usually set up some function keys; one is usually "next".

If you are in Placement Edit Mode you do not need to invoke the Move command, you can just left click the part to move it. It's the same for Etch edit mode, just click on a pin to route from it without invoking the Route Connct command. That's the whole point. You could also try hover and RMB to get the list of available commands, these are also App Mode dependant.
