Creating a Package/Footprint

Hi @all!

 Since this is my first posting - i'm sorry if i may have chosen the wrong board.

 My problem: I have to create a large non-standard "footprint" with 2.992 pads. I do have an excel-sheet with the coordinates and names of every pad. Is there a  way to import these informations? I'm currently working with allegro 16.2 (but we will upgrade to 16.5 soon).

 Alternative: We do have an existing footprint for eagle. But is there a possibility for converting the eagle footprint to allegro?

     Wow, That is a lot of pins!

    If your footprint has specific pin-pin spacing, you can use the "Pad Array Generator" in library manager. It is accessible when you select "Creat New Footprint". There you can set up the spacing and number of pads.

    I'm not familiar with importing or converting footprints from Eagle.

    PS: Keep in mind that there is a BIG learning curve when updating from Layout 16.2 to PCB Editor 16.5. It is nothing like previous versions and will take some time to get up to speed on.

    ok, that excel-sheet is really helpfull! i had some trouble to convince excel to use the point as a decimal seperator but that's all. It works fine now!

    btw: Is there a good document for learning the allegro scripting? I don't think it's that complicated but it's kind of a new "language" to me...

    Depends on what you mean by Allegro scripting. There is a programming language called Skill that allows you to write a program to do something in Allegro. You can record a macro (File - script - Record) then do something in PCB Editor and the operations are recorded to the script. (an scr file) that you can edit in a text editor. You can also type scriptmode +e at the command line then every time you do something the actual command used is listed at the command line (only for open session) which you can use to write a script or a funckey or alais (shortcut keys).

    The skill forum is a good place to look for info. There is also <your_install_dir>\doc folder then algroskill for skill details or look at any acoms (a commands) or bcoms (b commands) etc.
