how to change the Reference Prefix of an existed part

Auftrag2013

in the "New Part Property" mask, we can input the letter for the "Part Reference Prefix". But as soon as the new part is defined, it seemed I could not change the prefix letter later.

I tried somehow but coundn't get the solution except reopenning a new part properties mask. (but it is inefficient)

Can anybody here do me a favor?

  am using OrCAD 16.6

Just double click the refdes text and change it to what you want. It will become underlined (since 16.6) becuase it's now a user assigned refdes so you can differentiate between user assigned and system assigned.

Ah... thank for your quickly answer. the method you mentioned is really another way to change the prefix index. But the problem is, this manuel modification can only effect on one part in the schematic each time. The other similiar parts prefix still stay unchanged...

Locate the part in the library it came from (filename.olb) edit and fix the prefix here. Then in youe design expand the design cache and select the symbol name and Update the cache. This should update the part in the design with the updated library part.

There is one more step.  After performing the update_cache for the part in the cache, you must right-click again and choose Replace_cache then select the Replace schematic part properties option but leave the Preserve Refdes option deselected. At least on 16.3 you have to do both steps.

Just adding to this answer...  While editing a part go to Options>>Package Properties... in order to modify the part reference prefix.  It took me forever to find that.
