Automate Shadow Mode during routing

Hi, does anyone have an idea on how I could automate shadow mode so that when I start to route a cline shadow mode gets enabled and when I complete the route shadow mode gets disabled.

I was thinking it might be possible to do this using a hot key but am not too sure of the correct mechanics to do this.

basic idea is to dim the non active route layers on the fly when I start a route on a active layer but return the display to normal if I cancel the route or complete the route or select done.
