Sequent Placement. Does it make sense to place one by one !

 Hi everyone,

Have you ever got this idea in Allegro ? For example, i am placing 500 decoupling caps in to BGA pins, does it make sense to place one by one as Cadence default feature ? Your idea on this is welcome.

 Thanks,

Thuong.

You can get the pin XY coordinates in the BGA and create a placement file similar as required for File>Import>Placement for quick placement. Then to the cleanup.

Thanks Pawan. Getting BGA pins coordinate seem simple but the possition of decoupling caps are always different the BGA pins.

Also, if we have more than 1 Power Net (more than 1 decoupling cluster/group) then that is impossible to place exactly to its relative Power net.

I would prefer "Sequent placement" in PADS that i just simply select goup of decoupling, point the cursor to BGA area, then the decoupling which i selected will  snap automaticly to my cursor. I dont need to select 1 decoupling, place to BGA then go back to select an other one, place to BGA then go back... and so on :(.

     Thuong,

Try using the placement mode from Setup>Application mode and unplace the caps from the board.

Once you select the checkbox next to couple of caps from the placement window under Options tab, you should be able to place the cap one by one.
