Shape selection

When I have a shape for example a rectangle on the board and I pass the cursor over it the commands to do move, copy, rotate only become active via a RMB at the edge of the shapes bounding box. Was wondering if it is possible to configure Orcad/Allegro so that when find has shape checked and I pass the cursor over the shape be it in the center or other the shape highlights and the RMB menu becomes active.

I looked under setup user prefs but didnt locate anything that might apply to what I want to do.

This is not really a big deal as I can LMB window over part of the shape to select it that way too but it would be nice if it lit up like a christmas tree when I pass the mouse over the shape just based on "find" Similar to how it works if I draw a line.

Thanks Scott

    Scott,

I understand what you are trying to do, but I know of no way to make it happen. Plus it could be an issue if you have different shapes over each other.

I'll be curious to hear from others if this is feasible.

    Hi Tom

Last night I was making a mechanical symbol, basically a heatsink that I was using rectangular shapes to represent the vanes. Now this little goober : ) had about 30 vanes so I am copying shapes and moving them into position and I was thinking it sure would be nice to simplay pass the cursor over the shape and have it highlight based on it's internal coords and not the shape's edge so as to access the RMB in an easy way to move, or copy the shape.

This is kind of a value-added thing I guess. Would be nice if there was a user-pref to do that.

    Thanks Scott

The Copy command (Edit - Copy) has a rectangular and Plar copy mode. When you start the command the Options menu has all the info you need to copy in an array form that should speed up your shape positioning....

Hi Steve, indeed it does and it works very well.

Thing is since the find selector is set to Shape I would kind of expect that would mean when the cursor is passed over the shape the whole object would be highlighted and available for editing via the RMB. I dunno that makes sense to me, it is a bit wierd that you have to be at the shapes edge for that RMB to show up and be available. That is not consistent with how it works for lines, Believe consistencey is a good thing.

Not really a big deal though, just an observation on my part.

    Thanks Scott
