Fabmaster does NOT recognize Allegro "virtual" test points

Case Number: Case 45479585
Case Reference Number: ref:_00Dd0c1Z9._500d07xDZD:ref

Case Abstract: We have been using the Allegro TestPrep tool for years to create testpoint data ( Vias ) for our assembly vendors. We are being told that they don't use our testpoints in many instances because Fabmaster or TestExpert does NOT use or recognize them! They want us to place a TP part in the schematicfor each net in the design. Fabmaster only resolves RefDes parts that are Tespoints. What does the Allegro design comunity do to make sure the vendors use your Tesprep data to creat an ICT fixture?

I think I was asked to post this here?

Under Testprep you can "Create NC Drill data" for the fixture.  You can also "Create FIXTURE" which will graphically label each testpoint with the testpoint name.  Testprep report will give XY locations of each test point with the net name and tespoint name.

I don't know exactly what the test fixture vendor is looking for, but that is what we use.

I don't think our vendor or anyone that uses Fabmaster are using anything but the .brd file. We send ODB++, testprep.log and a Test_Report.txt from the reports tools among other files. The Create Fixture seems to give me the same or similar graphical test point representation as the triangle. I can create gerber from both but not sure how this helps them. Now the NC Drill Data looks promising but you may want to ask your vendor if they actually use it. They want us to add a "part" to the schematic for every net on the board ( more for power and gnd ) ie: TP1. I guess Fabmaster looks for ref des first, then a long list of lesser PRIORITYS and also density.

BTW, this is coming from our Assembly house and we are finding that the actual ICT vendor they farm the fixture out to uses their own tool and selects many different test point locations based on the tool they use.

You all should be asking this same question.

     Thanks much for the reply
