Create two separate symbols for one Part in Part Developer

Hi,

I am trying to create a part symbol for schematic (in Design Entry HDL) and this part comes with alot of pins,

is it possible to generate two symbols (two rectangles) for one part from Part Developer?

Such that the two symbols appear together in the Design Entry when the component is added?

     Hi Wenle -

You can do this. Look in the product manual (for Split Parts) here -

    Split Parts

A split part is a special case of an asymmetrical part. This part consists of a package in which logical pins are split across multiple slots. Split parts are useful for creating symbols for large pin-count devices. In a split part, each symbol represents a different function. The difference is that while in an asymmetrical part it is possible that a symbol represents multiple slots, a split part has one symbol representing only one slot.

To create and use split parts, you need to add either the SPLIT_INST and $LOCATION properties or the SPLIT_INST_NAME property on the symbol or the chips. This can be done through Tools - Setup. For more information about these properties, see PCB Systems Properties Reference.

You will not be able to have Part Developer create it automatically, but you can certainly modify the graphics Design Entry HDL once all the pins are defined.   DE HDL will not care what the graphics look like as long as the pins are defined.

You should able to do by breaking the symbol in to homogeneous or hetrogenous parts for a single Part Symbol by dividing the pin equally or different numbers. The pins need to match with the final symbol. While placing the part in schematic, the breakup parts can be placed as required assigning them the same ref des in schematics for all the multiple parts.

Hi Chads and Ravinsu, Thanks for the suggestion, i think it might be easier to do that in symbol editor with PCB Libarian to develop the multiple outlines of the symbols.

    Hi,

If I were to make a comparator with 2 opamps, how can I make the reference designator or location be U1A and U1B instead of both U1?

    Thanks,

    Mabel
