PCB date code

Hello,

I always get very fast and good answer from this forum, thanks to all good and experienced guys, I have a simple question again.

I know most of the time we ask PCB fab shop to put a 4 digit date code on the board, for example xxyy, xx is year, and yy is week of the year. is it doable( commen practice) to ask PCB fab shop to put 5 digit date code. like xxyyz, I want use z to represent a revison of internal code.

is date code limited to 4 digit. will it make some trouble to the fab shop?

 Sincerely,

David Sun

Sorry that you have not had a quick reply to this question.

I would say this is a question for your fab shop. If you specify a 4 digit date code with a specific format, then they should be able to accomodate you. And if you specify a 5 digit date code, they should be able to do that too.

If you think, a design can be used and produced over many year without a board revision and as such you would want a production date code for each production run they produce.
