Creating Touchpad buttons

Hi all.

I would like to design and develop a Touchpad of dimension 4x3 cm to interface with my microcontroller. I would like to know what kind of etch i am supposed use.

While searching in internet, i have come to know that i can use FR4, flexible PCBs, or ITO panels. Could anyone please explain what are these.

I have designed a two layer board in which i used Ground Planes. Shall i create such kind of planes as touch pads for Microcontroller pins?

Or is there any other meaning ful way does cadence provide to create the same?
