New VIA definition

Hi!

I have to you the following questions:

1) How do I define the new VIA so that I can use it later in Allegro? I know that I have to use the  PAD Designer, but where I have to save the designed VIA so it is later visible in "Edit VIA List" within Constraint Manager in Allegro?

 2) How I add to the layout a single VIA e.g. if I want to connect two planes together that are on different layers?

Best regards,

Your question pertains to the actual path to where vias and padstacks are located in Allegro so they can be re used in designs.

    Give this a try.

To make it easy create a folder or directory on your harddrive, call it "Allegro_Vias" You can name it what you want.

So we have a folder with a path c:\Allegro_vias

Next we need to configure Allegro so that it knows where your vias will be.

In the allegro pcb editor click on setup > User Preferences, in the Categorie section click on paths > Library

Click on the "PadPath" value and  enter the path for your vias,  c:\Allegro_vias

Click out of the User Preferences, save any new vias you create to the  c:\Allegro_vias folder and you should be good to go.

@ScottCad - Thank you for the great answer!

Could you also please provide me with the information how to:

    1) How to simply put a single VIA on the layout?

    2) How to put a VIA on a PAD so I will have the VIA-IN-PAD

    Thank you in advance,

    Best regards,
