PCB Editor can't load symbols (create netlist warnings)

Hi,

When I want  to create Netlist I see some warning messages in OrCAD Capture which makes PCB Editor unable to load symbols. I have used DB doctor so many times - according to message hint - with all instructions given in below post. But nothing changes:

www.cadence.com/.../1293508.aspx

Error messages whcih I see in orcad come below:

#1   WARNING(SPMHNI-192): Device/Symbol check warning detected. [help]
WARNING(SPMHNI-194): Symbol '1206N' for device 'CAP_1206N_10UF' not found in PSMPATH or must be "dbdoctor"ed.
#2   WARNING(SPMHNI-192): Device/Symbol check warning detected. [help]
WARNING(SPMHNI-194): Symbol '0805' for device 'CAP_0805_1UF' not found in PSMPATH or must be "dbdoctor"ed.
#3   WARNING(SPMHNI-192): Device/Symbol check warning detected. [help]
WARNING(SPMHNI-194): Symbol '0402' for device 'RES_0402_1K' not found in PSMPATH or must be "dbdoctor"ed.
#4   WARNING(SPMHNI-192): Device/Symbol check warning detected. [help]
WARNING(SPMHNI-194): Symbol '0603' for device 'RES_0603_10K' not found in PSMPATH or must be "dbdoctor"ed.

Can anybody help on this issue? I would really appreciate.

Thanks,

Hossein

The message states that the symbol (footprint) 1206N, 0805, 0402 and 0603 do not exist in your psmpath location. Make sure the folder where you store the filename.dra and filename.psm files contain the 1206N.dra and 1206N.psm. The psmpath is set in Setup - User Preferences - Paths - Library, set the psmpath to look at the folder that contains these files and then import the netlist again.

    Hi Steve,

Many thanks for your help. I had previously cleared all files except to the *.dra files. I didn't notice that I should have both *.dra & *.psm files for symbols. I just made some simple changes on each symbol and then saved it. This way editor creates *.psm file. Then I could load the netlist in the PCB Editor easily.

    Thanks,

    Hossein

Just as a FYI. You open and edit the filename.dra. When you save it PCB Editor automatically creates a binary file that is uses. You need to keep filename.dra, psm (package symbol) bsm (mechanical symbol) ssm (shape symbol) osm (format symbol) and fsm (flash symbol). I would keep these all in a single directory that is psmpath. For padstacks filename.pad should be kept in another directory padpath.

Yes, you're right. This was a valuable experience for me I took a lesson not to clear anything I guess useless. Thans again.
