Copper Pours

I am still a noob when it comes to the PCB portion of Orcad.  I have a 4 layer board and am ready to make the pours for the ground/power planes.  How is this done properly?  I have done:

  1. set a "keep in" rectangle inset in from the board outline.
  2. Add: Frectangle on the ground layer
  3. Select the "0" net

However, when I do this, all of my through holes give me a DRC error: Thru Pin to Shape Spacing

I also get an error for the keep in layer: Shape to Route Keepin Spacing

    After you create the route keep in try:

    Edit -> Split Plane

    Chose the layer then assign net.

    Good Luck

    A better way is to use Edit - ZCopy, look at the Options menu and set class/subclass to the layer you want the pour on, make sure you check Create Dynamic shape, set a value of contract (to offset from the board outline) then left click the board outline. The copper pour is contracted from the outline. This is easier if your outline is a complex shape. Now assign a net name to it (Shape - Select shape or void then left click the shape and set the net name from the Options menu. The Frectangle command always adds a Static shape which will not void automatically.

    Steve,

    It's a matter of preference, but I believe the split plane command is faster and easier and much more useful.
