Drawing Boxes around circuits on HDL Schematics

Does anyone else draw boxes around sub-circuits on flat designs?  It seems like there should be some sort of "Box Tool" to help divide your schematic up.  We typically end up using wires, drawing wires around circuits and changing the color and/or wire pattern.  The problem with that is then there's a possibility of you accidentally "connecting" to your box, and then you short signals out.  If anyone has any other ideas or thoughts on how to do this, I would appreciate hearing a solution.
