upgrade projects from Orcad 9.2 to Orcad 16.6

Frankly, I am new to PCB layout and ORCAD as well. I would appreciate it very much if anyone would give me some input on this.

I have PCB layout projects and schematics designed in ORCAD 9.2. Now I started using Orcad 16.6, and I need to update these projects: replace components that are obsolete with new components. Can anyone tell me how to upgrade these projects into an Orcard 16.6 version with the updated components? would it be possible to sync the schematics and the PCB layout projects and have any changes in the schematics reflect on the PCB layout. If so how can I proceed with this?

Thank you very much in advance.

I'm assuming the 9.2 board file is a MAX file ? Follow the pdf http://www.parallel-systems.co.uk/images/PDF/Translate_OrCAD_Layout_MAX.pdf, the filename.dsn will just open and this will walk you through the process.

Thank you Steve for the input. I followed the tutorial you recommended. However, I am not able to synch the PCB editor with the schematics capture. When I try to backannotate the design in Orcad capture I get these errors: #534 ERROR(SPCODD-534): Failed to create any physical parts
#1 ERROR(ORCAP-36027): Unable to read physical netlist data

I managed somehow to translate my schematics and PCB layout to 16.6. It is supposed that my schematics is synchronized with the PCB. Could anyone let me know how to verify this synchronization. I want to delete a component from the schematics and look at the PCB and see it has been removed. How can I proceed with this? Thank you!

I think the key part here is before you start looking at the PCB you MUST ensure that you can create a clean, error free netlist, once that happens, does it import into PCB Editor correctly and error free, make sure any errors are resolved before you even attempt back annotation. The PDF covers all aspects of issues you might see. If you are still struggling zip the dsn and max file on the forum and I'll take a look.

Thank you Steve! I managed to synch and upgrade my deigns from 9.2 to 16.2. Now I need to change some components on my schematics. For example I need to replace a 32 pins IC with a 16 pins IC. When I do that on orcad capture, how would this IC be displayed on PCB editor? would it even show on the PCB editor? certainly if this happens I need to route it manually I guess. I am sorry I am new in doing layout.
