Place bounds in Gerbers

Hi,

When creating a part I add the place bound, I suspect most people do that.  In order to see them during the design, I also have to add the Place Bounds in the Artwork film set up, so that I see them in the Views tool.  So far so good.

But when creating the gerbers, those place bounds are there, shorting nets.  So I manually have to go remove them from the Artwork film set up...  And if I need to do some modifications to the design, I have to go back and add them again.

One way to solve this would be to display the place bounds only when looking at the top (or bottom) layers.  But then I would have to do it every time.

This is counterproductive.  There must be a better way.  What is it??

Use the artwork film setup only for the export of gerbers. The ODB export also uses these layer sets.
For displaying certain layers use the so-called color files and call them with a funkey or alias.

You can make these color files with 'View->Color View Save".
First enable the layers which you would like to see and then save it to a file, like 'top.color'.

Then add a line in your env:
funckey t 'echo "TOP LAYER"; replay "top.color"'

With the 't' you can select the top view.

I've been using the place boundaries in views for years and have never had a problem. I export the gerbers manually so it only creates the layers I select.

You can create various non-Gerber layers in the artwork setup. This has been the traditional method with Allegro if you've been on the tool for years. Maybe create something like "PLACE_TOP" which would be TOP with placebound visible along with other useful layers.
