creation of symbols having many pins

Hi,

I'm preparing schematic for my project whose main part is a controller having 136 pins. I drew it as a single package but it looks too complex. It would be better if i could split it into different sections(like power supply,UART part,ADC section). Please explain how can i add the same footprint to those different sections.

Open the Library, select the part, right-click>Split Part, you will get a "spreadsheet view" of the pins, you can then specify how may sections you want to divide the part into, assign the pins to the sections and set the other parameters, Save As will save the part as a multi-section heterogeneous part.

Thank you oldmoldy.... I'm planning to divide the controller into four sections. I have the footprint of the controller with me . Do i need to add the footprint to of each sections? Will there be any mismatch in number of pins if i add footprint each sections?

Not really, PCB Footprint is a "Package property", when you open the library part after "splitting", use Options>Package Properties to set the footprint. If you leave the PCB Footprint blank at this stage you will need to set the same PCB Footprint property value on all of the sections placed in the schematic.

How can i split a custom package into different sections? I created the package of my controller by editing an available microcontroller from library. I couldn't find this particular edited package under library section. So please tell me how can i split and draw this custom package created by me into different sections as i mentioned earlier ??
