How to find out which license server is being used

I normally have access to two license seats on two separate license servers on our network (separate machines). These two servers are listed in my CDS_LIC_FILE variable.  One of these licenses is not available either because someone else is using it or the service is not running.  How can I find out which license is available and which is not?  How can I find out if the license on the other server is checked out?  How can I find out which computer has checked out this license?

You will need a local installation of the license manager, take a look at the License Server Administration Tools section in the "fnp" PDF manual in the doc directory for the LM installation, "lmutil lmstat -c <license path>" like "lmutil lmstat -c 5280@myserver" for example, will provide the license manager status for the license path, run the Windows Command Prompt and change directory to the license manager installation to run the lmutil command.

Actually, I figured it out another way: When I tried to open my second design and the application complained that it could not find an available licence, I noticed that a log is generated called "license_use.log" in the working folder. I did not notice this before. When viewing this log, I realized that the application was trying to take more than one license out of the same server. Obviously, I was able to determine, by elimination, that the server that was giving me trouble was the other server. I was able to go to that server's administrator and get it going again. Thanks for your input.

All software having a floating Flex license option uses a system environment variable to locate the license server hostname and TCP port number. Or, use the Cadence "License Client Configuration Utility" to show what is stored in the system environment variable "CDS_LIC_FILE". If you want to have two simultaneous instances of Allegro for editing, you need to have two licenses available.
