Automatically setup property editor's filters

Hi,

In the property editor you can choose to filter the objects in a schematic using the "Filter by" drop down menu. You can create your own by right clicking on a column header > Filters > Add Filter..., then manually hide all unwanted properties.

Instead of every user doing that manually and updating when changes are made, can filters be setup automatically using Capture.INI or some other setup file?

Thanks,

Aric

    The filter gets set to the prefprop.txt file in the tools\capture directory, at best, this can be "passed around" to other users to share the filters rather than each set their own. The better place to put custom prefprop.txt files from 16.6 is in "cdssetup\OrCAD_Capture\16.6.0", this is the default location for the "live" capture.ini, check the session log for the location used by your installation.

    Thanks for the reply. Can it be placed in the %CDS_SITE% directory or does it have to be %HOME%?

    For me it seems like the only place prefprop.txt is read from is the installation directory. Have you actually had success placing it in the %HOME% directory next to the Capture.INI? Thanks!

    Apologies, it looks you are correct. I admit that it has been a while since I checked this out, I was trying to find out if this could be moved from the installation and it did work for that test but I didn't move on to a permanent change. My understanding is that these things should follow the Site / Home / Installation precedence but it seems that this might no longer be the case for the property filter.

    From Cadence support:

    The prefprop.txt file is not read from HOME or CDS_SITE. However, you can define the location of prefprop.txt by a capture.ini setting. By default it points to install location. The setting is as follows

    [Spreadsheet]

    Pivot=1

    PrefPropPath= D:\Cadence\SPB166\tools\capture\prefprop.txt

    You can edit above entry in capture.ini file to point to the location of your custom prefprop.txt.

    My comments:

    There are downfalls in doing this.

    1) If you use a version controlled library to maintain files like prefprop.txt it will be painful because Capture constantly changes the prefprop.txt when any feature of the Property Editor is changed.

    2) If prefprop.txt is made read only Capture ignores it and defaults to the installation directory prefprop.txt.

    3) Any changes Cadence makes to prefprop.txt will have to be manually added to the custom prefprop.txt.
