Default Properties For New Schematic Symbols

Is there a way in Capture CIS to set default properties for new schematic symbols? For example when I create a new part I want it to include the following properties with blank values:

- Manufacturer

- Part Number

- Description

- Link

I have read other posts about people copying and pasting components that already have these properties associated with them, but that is just a work-around, and not a solution. That also won't work when you create a new part from a spreadsheet.

This is not a requirement for Capture CIS, unless you want to display those properties, which would be unlikely, Capture CIS will automatically add any properties set to Transfer to Design in the CIS Configuration, Part Number would be an automatic transfer, Manufacturer, Description and Link, whatever that might be, could be retained as database properties and would not, generally, require transfer to the schematic property values.

We use those properties for our bill of materials. So rather than adding those properties to a part every time I place it in the schematics, or create it in a library, I just want them to be included by default. I'm not sure why this option wouldn't be available.

If you are using Capture CIS driven from a database, you don't need to have these properties in the schematic, that's the whole point / advantage of using Capture CIS as apposed to "regular" Capture. Reports>CIS Bill of Materials lets you combine, Title Block, Schematic and Database properties in your BOM, keyed by the Part Number property.

I am coming from Altium and still learning the Cadence suite. We currently place parts in a schematic from many of our .olb libraries. All of the parts in the libraries don't have properties like Manufacturer, Part Number, etc. Going forward I would like any new part created to have these properties by default. I don't want the values for these properties filled in, I just want them to be present. We fill them in during schematic entry. If these properties don't need to be in the schematic, then how do I assign them to the individual parts? For example, if I place a resistor right now and go to edit it properties, there are no fields present to enter the manufacturer, part number, etc. If I run a BOM at this point for just this one resistor, my manufacturer, part number, etc fields in the BOM are empty because they don't exist.

As old mouldy has mentioned this is the difference between a Capture Flow and Capture CIS Flow. If you are just using Capture you have to add properties to parts manually either adding them to the Library Part using Options - Part Properties or in a schematic design by Editing Properties on the parts as you go. Very labour intensive. If you use CIS then all the properties are stored in a windows compliant ODBC database (Like MS Access or SQL DB) so you control the properties for each part. Instead of placing parts using Place - Part you use Place - Database Part. Talk to the Cadence Channel Partner who sold you the software who can go through this in more detail.
