Deleted reference desingators setting

Hi

Because of a Orcad server issue I accidentally deleted a component's reference designator with my latest pcb.

Is there a setting/option that I can set so this can never happen in the future?

TIA!

PS: I tried to search for this subject but dont see any forum search fields.

No. But you can restore them by updating the symbol(s).

I don't know about OrCAD but in Allegro you can do this by adding text on the Ref Des/Assembly_xxx layer. It asks you what you want to attach the text to.

Thanks guys. I'm surprised that it wont let you move it to other layers which is great...but allows me to delete it that easy. If I had caught it before hand I'd just update that component but the pcb went out then I saw it on the Gerbers it was missing.
