Mirror Placement Replicate on the same layer

Hello,

For a design I use a couple of the same circuits. In the schematic they are drawn as Hierarchical blocks. The circuits consists of a BGA with some resistors and capcitors. For the first circuit I use Place replicate create. Afterwards for some circuits I use Place replicate apply. Now I need to mirror half of the circuits on the same layer. For Example BGA U1 has resistor R1 placed on the left side. The placement of BGA U2 needs to be mirrored so that resistor R2 is placed on the right side. Can someone explain how to?

With Place replicate apply I can rotate and mirror the placement to an other layer, but I can't mirror it on the same layer. Maybe there is an other function that I don't know about?

I would say that you need to think about what you are trying to do. Consider a BGA, say that the "A" column is on the left and the "K" column is on the right, how are you expecting to "mirror" the part? You won't be able to get the "K" column on the left and the "A" column on the right, about the best that you could do on the same layer is "rotate".

    Hi oldmouldy,

I know it sounds weird, but the BGA is build from the same kind of "blocks". Those BGA's need to be connected to an other BGA that is placed in the centre of the design. The routing and other components are placed in such way that it's more "crowdy" next to the last column and first row and less crowdy next to the first column and last row. This way there is more room next to the BGA in the centre.

There is a command under Manufacture - Drafting called Relative Copy that will allow you to do what you want to do for everything except symbols (footprints). Invoke the command, check the Options menu for Horizontal or Vertical line then window the items and pick the first point of the mirror line, the copy is then attached to your mouse ready to place. You''ll need to manually place the symbols etc based on oldmoudly's comment but everything else should be where you need it.

    Hi Steve,

Thanks, but I can't find the Relative Copy at Manufacture - Drafting. They way I fixed it now is by copying via's, clines etc / RMB / mirror geometry / snap to other side (for example K1 instead of A1 of the BGA). Afterwards I placed the components manually by snapping them on the end of the clines.

Probably down to the version you are running. These new menus were introduced in the 16.6-2015 release so you'll need to be on S051 for 16.6 or at least S001 for 17.2 to see these menu entries. They were there earlier as unsupported prototypes but can't remember the exact hotfix. They were under the Edit menu if I remember correctly.
