Drag trace not moving

I am picking this file up from someone else and the file they sent me has a setting i cannot locate. When i attempt to click on a trace to drag it, i cannot drag it, instead i gives me this error

W- (SPMHGE-480): No valid items selected for 'Flow Vertex Move'. Select a flow segment or via prior to invoking this command.

So i have to delete the line and rerun it. but i always get trace stepping because i cant figure out how to force allegro to either continue straight or bend a 90 at this point. it just does what it wants.

Anyone know they setting that prevents me from being able to drag a trace?

I found some ridiculous fnction that kinda sorta does what i want in some ridiculous fasion. route->slide. this is completely arbitrary from what i can tell though but it does what i want just not as smooth as i want or in the direction i want. allegro is still doing things theway it wants to

This is down to the Application Mode you are in. The warning you are receiving is based on the fact you are in IFP (Interconnect Flow Planning mode) which is when you bundle connections together to plan how you wish to route. Try changing to General Edit Mode or Etch Edit mode and then you can click and drag what you want. The Application Modes are the green icons in the top left hand corner. They are also listed in the bottom menu bar towards to right side. If you click where it says Flow Planning you can choose the required mode..

you are correct sir. when i tried this before there was nothing selected in the find filter, i am still learning allegro this is my second run with it.

there is still some setting that is messed up though. when i am in etch edit and find filter is set to CLine - it treats a click like a move and moves the trace, not what i want. when i chose CLine segs in the find filter, it allows me to click and drag, but not correctly. i know it will do what i want, my first run i did a project from scratch and it will do this. i also seemed to have had less application modes in my project then this one, but anyways.

Scenario: i have a step in a trace at X-100 to move the trace from Y-100 to Y-200 at 45deg.

What i want: To move the step simply to X-200 without moving the Y-location of the adjacent traces.

What happens with etch edit and CLine segs: When i click and drag the step, it moves the step in both X and Y direction which causes more havoc and more steps since it is moving the location of the step in the Y-direction also. It does not simply slide the step along the traces keeping the adjacent traces fixed.

When you click and drag a cline the tools invoke the "slide" command so for settings invoke Route - Slide then look at the Options Pane for control settings. It sounds like the Vertex Action isn't set to Move (which is probably what you want). If not try experimenting with these settings until you get the desired behaviour. Once the cline is attached to your mouse you can type ix (or iy) and then the amount you wish to move by so ix 100 would slide the cline by that amount in the x axis.
