Invalid References - OrCAD Capture

Fras

Hello,

I have created a schematic in capture and I wanted to split a connector (specifically https://www.digikey.co.uk/product-detail/en/te-connectivity-amp-connectors/1761987-9/A98559TR-ND/1851170) into two different parts in capture. I have named them J1A and J1B, however, i get this error:

ERROR(ORCAP-1616): Reference is invalid for this part J1B
ERROR(ORCAP-1616): Reference is invalid for this part J1A

They have the same footprint as they are one part but for ease I separated them. Any idea how to solve this?

Cheers

You would need to create a multi-section, more than one section, part, to get a suffix in the design. You can't have two separate schematic parts and "join them" by forcing the same reference designator, hence the "invalid reference" error. If the parts have the same graphics, and it sounds like they might, you can edit the existing part and increase the number of sections for a Homogeneous part, the Part Numbering will be "A B C.." for alphabetic, or "-1 -2 -3.." for numeric. Pin Numbers will be different in each section, View>Package and Edit>Properties is a way to get all of the Pins into a grid for editing.

Thanks, I made it heterogeneous with multiple parts and that sorted it out.
