Connecting Planes To Pads

Fras
Fras over 8 years ago

Hello,

I have attached a screenshot from my workspace so that this becomes easier to explain.

I created a ground plane so that my surface mount padstacks can be connected to this plane to reduce the number of ground wires. The problem arises because PCB Editor is telling me to connect the grounds on either side of the board. This makes no sense to me and I'm wondering if anyone has an idea of how to fix this?

Thanks

You need to connect Pins top and Bottom or the Pins will just be floating pads. I suspect that, part of your issue, at least, is that you have the minimum thermals set to the default of 2 and there is no way to fit two thermals in. You could edit the Pin Properties and Change the Dyn_Min_Thermal_Conns to 1 for these Pins to get a thermal connection, or Change the Dyn_Thermal_Conn_Type to Full Contact and have no thermal connection to the Shape.

    Hi,

I used 'gloss' and for whatever reason it has almost sorted itself as when i remove the plane the grounds don't connect anymore. I am wondering if this shorts any of my other pins that aren't ground?

No that looks like the shapes have gone no dynamic so go to either Check - Design Status (or Display - Status) and Update the shapes to smooth (it will be accessible if they need updating) to see your copper poured correctly.

Thank you for your replies. However, I am back to square one (possibly even before square one) again. I'll ask my adviser if I can't get it to work so no worries.

    UPDATE:
Sorted it out. Used global parameters to reduce the anti-etch/thermal to 0.1 MILLIMETRES. I had 5 set in the anti etch so it was clearing the whole placed rectangle. Thank you for your help guys.
