Display REF DES text for layout review

ron2015schmitt

I am responsible for reviewing layouts for SI/PI/EMI etc.

It would help tremendously if I could do the following:

  1. place all REF DES text so that it is centered in the middle of each component
  2. view the bottom layer REF DES text in forward direction  (without flipping the design)

Is it possible to accomplish this?

Also, I wish I could have better quality / anti-aliased text for viewing.  Maybe Cadence can improve this at some point?

thanks

The RotateSilkAssyRD Skill code will do some of what you want. Search for it on the Skill forum if you're looking for a Skill solution.

I finally got some time to learn how to use Skill files and got the RotateSilkAssyRD script working: it does all the centering and resizing of REF DES text.  It has a nice popup interface too.  Thank you.  Now to learn how to mirror the RD text on the bottom layer (without mirroring the entire design of course)....

    Hi,

Well, here is an idea for you to get you closer to what you are looking for. But, it would require you to modify all your library parts to do so.

Just add special text (label refdes) sized, positioned centered justified and mirror per your requirements to a graphic layer that you are not using. I just did a test myself using the display_top and display bottom layers.

For new designs going forward the part text will be displayed once you turn on these layers. On your older designs you need to update the parts from your library to see the text as well.

The only thing I noticed during my test. For parts that are rotated the text will too. But, the text is still sized correctly, centered and mirrored per your requirement.

Does that help you let me know.

    Cheers

    Hi Dale,

Yes, I like your idea.  I have the non-mirrored text working for the bottom layer.

I'd also like to change the layer display order so that the RD text is displayed on top of all the other layers.  I'll post my script once I get it all together.
