[17.2] Fanout via options not available

Hello all,

I'm working with OrCAD PCB 17.2 and I'm trying to use the fanout tool to help route a BGA.  The problem I'm running into is that the only via it will let me select is 'Net Default'.  I click the drop down box but that is the only thing available.  I have other vias defined in the constraint manager for these nets and I've verified with the route tool that it can see the other vias.  This is the first time I've used the fanout tool so maybe I'm doing something wrong.  Does anyone know what might be going on here?

Thanks,

Dylan

    Hello,

Make sure you define the available vias at the Design Level inside of the Default Physical Constraint Set.  Adding available vias directly to the Net will not influence the Via pulldown for Create Fanout.

    Hope this helps,

    Hi Mike,

I checked what you suggested and I have different VIAs defined in the constraint manager but I still don't see them in the fanout drop down box.  I've attached a couple of pictures.  Maybe there's something obvious that I'm missing.  I also have noticed that my installation is very buggy and prone to crash.  So maybe this is a bug.  I can probably work around this by replacing the padstacks but I wouldn't mind trying to learn how to use the tool completely.

    Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the pixs.  The Via Pulldown is also filtered based on the Start and End Layers that is defined above. So if all your Vias go thru the board from Top to Bottom than you will not see them for selection in the pull down.  In your case the Vias which start on Top and end on Signal1 would be available for selection.

Try changing the End Layer to Bottom and see if your Vias appear in the pulldown

    Hope this helps,

    Mike Catrambone

That was it! Thank you, I knew it was going to be something simple I was over looking. Thanks again!
