Capture - Copy and paste does not generate new refdes

Hello everyone,

I'm working on a schematic and I would like to copy one page of parts and paste it on another.  When I do this some parts aren't assigned a new refdes.  Instead I get something like 'U?'.  Even telling Capture to annotate that page doesn't give it a refdes.  Oddly enough some parts can be copied and pasted and get a new refdes.  I've gone into the presences and set 'Automatically reference placed parts' and 'Design level(Only PCB designs)'.

I inherited this design from another engineer and I notice something odd when I go into the part properties.  I get the normal stuff but then there is an extra bar of information below that that is highlighted in yellow.  I don't know what this means but I notice that the refdes for one is U? and the other is U11.  Maybe this has something to do with it?  Thank  you for any suggestions!

Thanks,

Dylan

What you're seeing in yellow and white are what were originally referred to as "logical" (white) and "physical" (yellow) designators.  Then suddenly OrCAD renamed these to "instance" and "occurrence" and took away the ability to view them separately.  So when starting with a design such as yours you need to run the "Accessories->Transfer Occ Prop to Instance".  This will push all the referenced parts (yellow) back to the "logical"  (white) state and will then allow OrCAD to generate new reference designators when doing copy and annotate. I can see it has not been done on your design since the "white" reference designator still has a "?".

BTW, if the correct flow is done this is never really needed.  You guys are doing something a little bit out of the norm based on your example.
