MAX file

I have a MAX file from Samtec, which should be a connector footprint. I've been searching for how to Import it but haven't found anything that makes sense.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks

A MAX file is an OrCAD Layout file which depending on which version of PCB Editor you are using can be imported using File - Import - Cad Translators - OrCAD Layout (or Import - CAD Translators - OrCAD Layout). If you have 17.2 you'll need to enable this import from Setup - User Preferences - unsupported and enable layout2allegro_unsupported then restart.

    Hi Steve,

I'm using OrCAD PCB Designer Professional 17.2-2016 but I do not see the Options that you say, which was my reason for the post.

If I'm in the package Editor I see the following window: ( I can't load a file here whatever size I make it, always an error)

I have File > Import > Artowrk, IPF, DXF, IDF, Sub-Drawing, CSV Pin File, Logo, Techfile, Parameters.

If I'm in layout mode then there is no File > Import but there is:

Import > Netlist, MCAD, Color/Board Parameters, Techfile, Clipboard, Placement, Translators, More,

under Translators > PADS, PCADS, PADS Library, Altium PCB, Altium Schematic

So you'll need to enable it from Setup - User Preferences - unsupported - enable layout2allegro_unsupported

Sounds like your not running the latest hotfix. Cannot remember exactly which hotfix this was included in but if you get the latest S032 then it's definitely there.

Hi Steve, are you a Cadence employee?

If so then I'm really disappointed with the Level of Support.

I've only just moved to Orcad after many years using Altium. This seems to be a fairly Basic function that appears to be documented but doesn' work for me.

Altium handles a lot of Tasks in a much more Logical way, is all I can say.

If you find anything please let me know, for now I'm just going to give up and make the footprint myself

Hi AutoMike - no I don't work for Cadence - and this command was added via a QIR (or hotfix). Cadence and other EDA vendors issue software hotfixes and changes regularly so you need to just install the latest update to be able to see this. It's just as easy as "other" tools in my opinion. If your not sure of the process of how to get updates please contact the channel partner you bought the software from and I'm sure they will be able to help you and get you up to date. You may also be able to get the footprint from the likes of UltraLibrarian or SnapEDA.
