How to Auto Insert Board details like a PCB number etc into a design

Is it possible to add links in an Allegro design that automatically link to the variables in a projects atdm.ini file so that board numbers/artwork numbers and revisions are automatically kept aligned?

Like _pwb_number and _pwb_mfg_rev as reference to the items on the atdm.ini file to update to 103800500 and AA for example.

Are you looking to set this up so that when you were to check into a PLM or something, these variables would get updated, and then possibly silkscreen would be updated on your circuit board?  I've been looking for that sort of automation, but have not found it (or built it myself).  As I think more and more about it, the challenges become more apparent.  What happens if the _pwb_number changes and becomes 3 characters longer and doesn't fit on the board where you had it placed for example.

If you're just looking to store that information inside a cadence project, then you can use the CPM file and create your own section.  Use the cpmaccess command like this:

    • cpmaccess -write <cpm_filename.cpm> BOARD_DETAILS _PWB_NUMBER 103800500
    • cpmaccess -write <cpm_filename.cpm> BOARD_DETAILS _PWB_MFG_REV AA

Also, as a note, if you use the CUSTOMVAR as the program name (instead of BOARD_DETAILS as I used above), then it is available as a custom variable inside the schematic editor.

Currently we extract information and load it using PDM data. And we also use a different PCB design system called Altium which uses this data with ease.

We want to use the same data in much the same way with our Allegro system too.

Things like a PCB number (9 numbers) and revisions (2 letters) would not change length over a long period of time (999,999,999 different designs), so we would be pretty safe in that respect.
