Dynamic Shape loses connectivity after stretch

Leron
Leron over 7 years ago

Dear All,

I have a shape made of dynamic copper on TOP. There is a net assigned to it (RL), as you can see

When I stretch it it loses the connectivity, becomes unfilled

and gives error in status:

Dynamic shapes out of date: 1 out of 15

Current fill mode : SMOOTH

<<< ETCH >>>

Layer = TOP

State: No Etch Point on shape: (-1.808 1.376) Net: RL

How to solve this?

Thanks

Francesco

Leron, What version are you running ?, it looks like in your picture you have 2 shapes but they are not merged. One is horizontal covering the pins and one is vertical.  Perhaps try this. Merge both shapes then drag the one you want to encompass the pins or get rid of the vertical shape...

Check your "Global Dynamic Shape Parameters" so the shapes auto update.

Let us know if it works.

    Regards Paul.

    Hi Paul,

thanks for your advises.. however I don't think they will solve the issue.

Let me answer to your questions:

I am using Allegro PCB Designer 17.2-2016 S024.

The shapes cannot be merged since one is static and is part of spiral inductor made directly with the PCB while the other is dynamic copper.

I think that the problem is related to some minimum area requirement to have a shape dynamic. As you can see in the picture below I have the same issue with two other pins of my BGA:

Any further suggestion is very welcome.

BTW, what is the difference in having a shape on ETCH/TOP or on Boundary/TOP

Check the value you have set for Shape - Global Dynamic Params - Void Controls tab - suppress shapes less than, you might want to reduce this value and see if that helps. For the Boundary v Shape, boundary is what you draw (from a shape point of view), the shape is he resulting object. If you remove islands for example they will remain on the boundary layer (if that makes sense).

    No luck..

I even put that value to zero but it did not change anything. Probably it is only related to artworks creation....

OK try a Tools - Database Check and see if that resolves it. If it doesn't I notice you are on S024, the latest one is S037 so get that and see if that helps

I only see three DRC error (but they arenot related to the issue) but the shape still remain the same. I will try to update to the latest release and will let you know.

    Steve,

I updated to latest release (very nice the new interface) but the problem is still there.

I tried to delete and draw the shape again.

The shape loses its connectivity when it is reduce reduced below the dimentions below:

    Item 1 < DYNAMIC SHAPE >

           class         BOUNDARY
           subclass TOP

      Part of net: RL
      Shape priority: -15
      Number of etch shapes: 1
      Dynamic fill style: SMOOTH
      Area: 0.00407 (sq cm)
      Shape is solid filled

    Original boundary:
      segment:xy (-1.888 1.476) xy (-1.888 1.114) width (0.000)
      segment:xy (-1.888 1.114) xy (-0.765 1.114) width (0.000)
      segment:xy (-0.765 1.114) xy (-0.765 1.476) width (0.000)
      segment:xy (-0.765 1.476) xy (-1.888 1.476) width (0.000)

Leron - Sometimes same net drc settings for shape to shape or pin can cause this. You can also try changing the shape type to static after you stretch it. That should keep the shape visible.

    Hi,

The "Suppress shapes less than" option under Global Dynamic Shape Parameters does control when a dynamic shape is suppressed on the canvas, it is not a setting for artwork output.  Seeing that you set the value to 0 and the shape still does not have show its fill maybe one of the following conditions is causing it to be unfilled.:

    1.  A Route Keepout is defined in the area where you have drawn the dynamic shape.
    2.  The Shape is totally inside of a Constraint Region which has larger than expected clearances so it is just voided away.

Type moving the unfilled dynamic shape to another area of the board to see if it fills again.

    Hope this helps,
    Mike Catrambone
