Shape symbol in Padstack Editor automatically offsets

Greetings,

I am trying to make a 'c' shaped pad, per the manufacturer's recommendation. (https://www.fairchildsemi.com/datasheets/LL/LL4148.pdf)

For some reason, even when I put the origin of the custom shape in the middle of the vertical section of the shape (blue plus), padstack editor shifts the origin of the pad to the center between the top and bottom of the 'c' (red plus).

The problem is that when I place the pad this creates into a package symbol and then into a PCB design, the copper traces want to connect to the origin of the pad where there is no copper.

Any help with this would be very appreciated.

Thanks,

Tyler D

Which exact version are you running? I get an offset reported in the Padstack Editor but the Pad created has the correct origin when placed in a Package Symbol and then into a board using 17.2-2016.s045. You can use the "traditional" method of draw a Shape in the Package Symbol and add a small SMD Pad for the connect point, the Pin to Shape DRC in the Package Symbol will clear when placed in a board with a netlist loaded. You can also disable the "Snap to Connect Point" when routing and use the "touch model" which will recognise the connection as being made "anywhere" on the Pad, assumes that you are running a 17.2-2016 version.

I knew I forgot something.  I am running the 17.2-2016 version.  Other custom shapes I have created worked properly, but this is the first that I have attempted that had a 'void'.

Putting a small rectangular pad inside the shape works, as does disabling the snap option.  Thanks for the help!  I still wish I knew why it was moving my origin, but for now we have a functioning footprint.

    Thanks a ton, oldmouldy!
