Capture HF049 17.2 - Greyed out menus when trying to exit from viewing a package.

When you are viewing a Symbol Package and wish to revert to looking at only one instance of the symbol it's difficult to get out of that mode.

Previously one could use "View" Part on the tool bar to return to one instance of the part. You could actually easily cycle between view part and view package. To get out of the view package menu you have to X out.
It is no longer possible to easily cycle between views.

Here is a pic to illustrate (Try it out ) !

On a related note at the schematic level, One of the salient features of capture is the Full Screen cursor ( F6) that's handy for lining things up.On windows 10 the FSC is causing screen artifacts during a move symbol operation.Needless to say there is one benefit to that artifact. ( You can see where the symbol was ) until you have finished moving it.

I was wondering if anyone is on win 10 does it do the same thing for you with FSC enabled (F6-KEY) to turn on and off. ?

I don't seem to find any artifacts here. Does it have anything to do with your computer graphics driver?    (OS:win10 x64 1809 1366*768)

Hi Kinzhifeng, That's a nice screen capture utility to illustrate things with the animated gif Slight smile. I checked my ver of WIN 10 and it was on V1803. The current ver 1809 wasn't getting pushed down via regular updates. Anyway I updated to 1809. My issue remains with the FSC in capture. Since it looks to be working for you then more than likely this is a video driver related issue. win10 has had alot of vid-driver related issues.

The more pressing situation is the loss of ability to cycle between view part and view package. Seems like it does not work since the menu item is grayed out.

Look carefully, the View>Package opened a new tab, move to the tab and right-click>Close and the Part View, which still has an open tab, will be restored.

Hi OM, I see that now, it's not very obvious. I think part of the problem with the mechanics of the tabs is that they don't actually say what mode you are in. The thing looks like a rush Job to me. The idea is good on the tabs its just not descriptive when one considers what designers were used to in previous generations of capture, hence my confusion.

To illustrate here are a few pics.

So we are creating a new symbol in the capture part editor but we are looking here at the top level. If you look you will see two tabs. One is the part editor view and one is the package editor view. The question is which one ? they both seem to be named the same though one has what looks like a tiny icon of sorts.

When creating a new symbol you will be in "Part editor" viewing mode. My thinking is the Tab should indicate that mode. Conversely as we all know there is also the "Package View" my thought is the tab should indicate that mode too. Makes sense to me.

Here is another pic, this time we are editing a part and you can see the second tab beside it which is the "Package View" as I had enabled that mode too via the tool bar menu.

From the perspective of the tab names, They look pretty meaningless to me. They don't indicate anything really other than a truncated library name..If you couple this with the greyed out menu items it just confuses the whole operation IMHO. The tabs just don't make any sense like that. Hard to believe they even made it out the door as an update.

While on this subject, there is one more thing. The new panel menu on the right looks pretty good. That got introduced awhile back. Thing is whats with the esoteric button that doesn't have a name. In the pic I added what it actually does. The other thing is that if you have a bunch of attributes assigned to the symbol they get added to that Part Properties window which is fine but those attributes are using the same color as the dialogs "Black" I think it would be nice if the attributes could be in a different color so that a designer can see at a glance what attributes are assigned. If all the text in the properties window is the same there is nothing to delineate the important things that might be of interest to someone creating parts all day long. Certainly one can see the attributes on the symbol if they are enabled but if they are not as would be the case with certain attributes associated with packaging to allegro having a visual que for your eye I think would be a big help.

    any thoughts ?

    Thanks...
