Missing inner routing layers when re-opening a PCB design.

Hi,

I am new to OrCAD software and PCB design in general. I have a simple board I would like to design with multiple etch layers (i.e. top, layer2, bottom, all routing layers).

When I use the board wizard I can see all layers on the visibility tab (top, layer2, bottom) and am even able to use vias to route traces between all layers. However, when I use capture to

generate a netlist and open it with my board, the inner layers disappear from the visibility tab. When using auto-routing only the top and bottom layers are used.

Would anyone be able to advise on why I am unable to see/use all the layers I originally made with my board?

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Maybe try this. In allegro create a board file that has the number of layers you need and then save it out, for example Myboard.brd. In capture when you create a netlist choose "Myboard.brd" as your input board . For the output board file choose a different name. When you run the netlister in capture it will take the Input board file that contains all the layers you need and package the design to that output board name.

When you open the output board you should see all of the layers you had. There are a couple of ways to do the same thing in Orcad/Allegro that can be confusing. A good method is to have a board file that can act as a template. Then whenever you do a new design you will be starting with a basic board file that has all the layers, colour setup etc that you would need.

You can verify that the layers you need in a board file exist by going to the xsection (Layout cross section). The layout cross section drives the layers in your design that then become available in the visibility pane. If you need
extra layers add them to the "Cross Section" first.

    All the best.
