[Capture CIS] Preview 3D model for database parts + more component details

Hello

Under Place Database Part in Capture CIS, Is there any way we can get a 3D preview of those parts which has a step attached to their footprint?

If not, is there any way to get a more detailed preview of the footprint than a green wire frame?

Also, would it be possible to see description of the component in a viewing window like this:

Best regards

Mysil

One of the Cadence Channel Partners (CB Distribution) has created a tcl app that will allow you to see the 3D step model of a footprint. Put the attached file into %HOME%\cdssetup\OrCAD_Capture\tclscripts\capAutoLoad and then restart Capture, select the part right click - More - View 3D Footprint and the step model will be shown (as long as it is set up in the pcb footprint). There is a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yb40FMNHztc. 3d_View.zipFor the rest I would raise an enhancement request with Cadence / Channel Partner.

Nice! I can't see any attachments, though :-)

We'll talk with our channel partner for the rest.

Well, we got this far with our OrCAD PCB Professional licence:

OK there is an issue launching the 3d canvas standalone unless you have one of those licenses. The developer has asked Cadence to look at this but in the mean time he has issued a different version that launches PCB Editor first, then the 3d Canvas. Once it's resolved I can repost the original one. 3D_View_new.zip

Thanks, Steve! It's still not quite what we're looking for, though, as we'd like to have some visual representation (and more informative description) of our components while we are browsing our database.. It seems like a no-brainer for a tool this capable ;-)
