Cannot add dummy net on No Connection pin

Dinesh K

Hi,

I need to put Dummy net on NC pin of a LED. But when i put Dummy net and try to assign to that pin it is showing "cannot assign dummy net to that pin".

I need to put dummy net on that pin for heat dissipation.

Thanks & Regards,

K.Dinesh

You don't need to put "Dummy" net on the pin.  All unassigned pins get an internal definition of "Dummy" automatically.  You can always click and route from a pin or connect with a shape.  Just will have a DRC that needs to be waived.

What I do (16.6) is add a short net to a pin in the schematic.  Then in the constraint manager I create a dummy CSet and create net properties such as spacing.  Once the CSet is created i assign the short net to the Cset.

I do this alot for electric spacing on pins attached to packages that are design as a non bonded (internally) pins that are designed such to meet electrical clearances between to high voltage pins.  This way I don't have to wave DRC's (I don't like any DRC's even waved ones).

That's actually the best way IMHO to do it -- as you point out you can class these nets appropriately.
