OrCAD Capture stuck on 'updating Allegro PCB editor Board' and Crashes

Hi all,

I have a PCB schematic in Orcad Capture and upon clicking on Create Netlist to get the PCB design, the box gets stuck on  'updating Allegro PCB editor Board' and Orcad crashes. Any suggestions on why this is happening? It doesn't use to happen before but for this particular design, I have moved my libraries and drawing files to a different folder. I can't remember where in Capture I can specify these folders.

Many Thanks

When you're importing the netlist, are you double-checking the 'import from' folder location? I do it religiously - EVERY TIME - so I know FOR CERTAIN it's looking in the correct folder location for the pst files. Do you do that?

Another thing... are you working on Windoze 10? Windows 7 or Linux?

    Hi,

Can you please tell me where that folder is? Or how to make sure Capture is looking into the right folder?

I'm using Windows 10, it didn't use to happen with previous designs (that were in different folders) unless there's been a new update that is conflicting?

Or perhaps Capture has got problems with my PCB footprints location folder?

Search the project folder you're using for the schematic. Mine is a folder called "Allegro", but yours could be different. You will have a folder with a series of pst..dat file (e.g. pstchip.dat, pstxnet.dat, pstprt.dat files). Point to that folder when you doing the import. This has nothing to do with you footprints.

Next try exporting the netlist, and turn off the "Update board file" routine. ( I never do this). If that works, and you exported the netlist fine, go into Allegro and File/Import/Logic from there.
