Hierarchy and Searching

archive
archive over 20 years ago

My lab has avoided hierarchal designs due to historical problems encountered when doing design reviews. Since we don't buy enough licenses for everyone involved in a design review of a board to use, we rely on PDF files. They tell me that the hierarchy using PDF makes it very difficult to follow a net through levels of hierarchy.

Wondered if anyone out there had a method which could get around these issues. Has 15.1/15.2 improved the PDF generation? Are there free schematic viewer tools like the free layout viewer tools? Any other tricks?

I have use hierarchy with great success in past positions, and would be loathe to loose it now.

Thanks, John Hutton

The cross-referencer tool allows the user to generate a flattened schematic view of the design. This view can also be fully cross referenced using flag bodies to add tags to allow full navigation through a hierarchical design.

After the schematic has been flattened the generated PDF can also be fully searchable.
