Differences in STEP out from Allegro vs from 3D Viewer

We're all pretty disgusted with the 3D model handling *still* from Allegro.  If we export from within Allegro, we get a decent model minus layers such as soldermask and silk.

If we export from within the 3D viewer our exports expand hugely (example: Allegro generates a 7.5MB file, 3D viewer is 55MB).  But the STEP from the 3D is poor quality and the models break half the time even tho they work fine from Allegro.

So, just curious, what's been your experience with exporting a *beautiful* STEP that works and looks realistic?

Thanks

A beautiful Step may run into what the mechanical software rendering capabilities are.

Exporting STEP from 3D seems to be dependent on what is visible.  Turn most things off and the step should be straightforward.

My MEs only use laptops that get bogged down easily.   Mechanical engineers don't like the tradeoff.  They can't have pretty/detailed and fast at the same time.

I push everyone to learn and use Allegro Physical Viewer Plus (the licensed viewer that gives you the full viewing experience down to constraints.)  Let me import a step enclosure (not sure why that's ever a question.  unless it's not done.)

Your solution may come down to adding Luxion Keyshot to take over rendering from Solidworks.  Avoids hiring professional photographers to make 3d-printed prototypes look good.
