Is it possible show origin in Allegro

archive

Is it possible to turn on a visual indicator of where the origin of a design, symbol etc. is in Allegro. Something in the setup? I'm currently a PADS user and we are looking to change to Allegro and I am demoing the software. In PADS the origin is always visible and can easily be moved.

Thanks
Tim

As far as I know there is not the facility to view an origin or datum as such. But, when you create a symbol, you can put a feature on any subclass of your choice e.g. a small cross or a circle. This would then be visible within allegro should you choose to view it from the color pallete. The subclass you choose can be one of the ones already present by default or you could make one of your own which would automatically come through into the database.

In addition, you can always see the x/y position of the cursur in the lower right hand corner of the Allegro GUI.

The origin can easily be moved by using the pull-down menu Setup => Drawing Size, Move Origin

You could also go to Setup, Design Parameters, Display tab, then on the righthand side under Enhanced Display Modes, check the box next to Design Origin.

    Hi,

Yes, I am X PADS user too. The switch you need to turn on is found under (at the top of your screen) -setup/design parameters. Select the Display tab and you will see the Design origin switch. Hit Ok and presto.  by the way you can move the origin around just like PADS as well. This was not always the case. until I submitted a write up explaining the benefits of temporarily moving the origin around as a tool to help places graphics quickly.

    Cheers

As previously answered, it is possible to make the board design origin visible but for some strange reason, making the footprint design origin visible is not. The subclass is there but it cannot be turned on. I have filed an enhancement/change request with Cadence but it was turned down.
