ODB++

Hello all,
I have Allegro V. 15.1 and just downloaded ODB++ inside from Valor.
Never used it before. Is it worth using. I know quite a few people use it these days.
What advantages does it give over RS-274X?
Just starting to look around in the Valor Universal Free Viewer.

Any input or helpful hints would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

Basically, the ODB++ Inside gives you the ability to generate manufacturing files which can be used by many fabricators today to fabricate PCBs. ODB++ is an all-in-one manufacturing output which also includes component placement information that can be used to drive placement machines during Assembly.

I would ask the fabrication houses your company deals with to see what they prefer but if they are using Valor today to CAM up the data then most likely they would prefer the ODB++ Format over RS-274X.

We have Valor Enterprise internally to run a series of DFM checks prior to releasing for fabrication so I have never used/setup the Valor Universal Free Viewer. I did play with it originally and it appears to be a scaled down version of Valor Enterprise to simply view the output from Allegro.

    Hi Mark,
We now supply ODB++ to most of our suppliers. Those that didn't have ODB++ importing capabilities were happy to add it to their tools. I believe that it's already included with some tools and about $500 for others (such as GCCAM).
One of the main advantages is being able to supply intelligent data. This assists the fabricator to understand the design and communicate more clearly with you. I.e you can discuss the annular ring on pin 23 carring signal CLK on IC1.
Cadence's Gerber format is not the most popular so ODB++ does make your supplier happier.
We manipulate ODB++ for array design (far easier than other methods) - but that's another story...
    Cheers, Dave

    Hello Mark,

I saw your old post from you about using ODB++ inside with Allegro 15.1.

I  am trying to find an older version of ODB++ Inside that will run with my Allegro 15.2.

I have tried ODB++ Inside version 9.1 and 8.2, but neither works with anything older than Allegro 16.0.  I know it's asking alot, but I was hoping maybe you (or someone else) still had a zipped copy of the version you used with Allegro 15.1 back in 2006.

Please let me know if you can help.

    Thanks, George
