Mirroring the display

Who uses the back of the board? If you don't then don't read on.

My guess is that the vast majority of designs have components, silk screen, part numbers or labels on the reverse side of the layout. Unfortunately, although it is possible to have artworks and prints mirrored, it isn't possible to mirror the display.

For me this is significant because the rear has cosmetic importance. If you agree, please submit a request and perhaps it will be introduced.

    Try menu options:

    Manufacture>Dimension Draft>Create Detail

Look at the command options and select a target layer, then select a rectangular window of what you would like to copy/mirror/rescale e.g. a bottom silkscreen or assembly layer. When you have selected you will be in a place mode, before you commit to place - click the RMB and you will have the option to mirror.

    Hope this helps.

Oh yes, it would be sooooooooooooooooo usefull to be able to see board mirrored (silkscrenn, assembly drawing).
Is it so difficult for cadence to implement it?

    Mentor does it well...

    Hi jcteyssier

In the previous post of this thread I explained that this can be done with Allegro:

    Manufacture>Dimension Draft>Create Detail

Look at the command options and select a target layer, then select a rectangular window of what you would like to copy/mirror/rescale e.g. a bottom silkscreen or assembly layer. When you have selected you will be in a place mode, before you commit to place - click the RMB and you will have the option to mirror.

    Hope this helps.

It's should be a good idea but i doesn't replace a mirror view:

    - with detail, text are no longuer text but lines
    -  no more text attachment (it is a good thing to know "who is U987" when you make sikscreen or assembly: you have to move text and put it in a place where it would be in relation with component.

Realy, once more, it should be a great improvment (and not so hard to implement, i guess, but have to DECIDE it) for users.

Now, yes, i have customers whi use details for mirror drawings (or export-import ipf files) but each time you modify the board you have to redo ALL the job to re-place refdes at the right place....

    JCTeyssier,

You can do this in File>PlotSetup, Select Mirror and plot to whatever file you like. I plot these to .pdf all the time for my customers.
