Dynamic copper fill problem

archive
archive over 18 years ago

I have a design that requires a copper fill on the top etch. I am using v15 and have set the global params as needed and then assign the net and create the shape using polygon. After completion, there ae several places where the traces that do NOT belong to the copper fill net, are "shorted" to the copper fill and no void is made around them. Why is this? Am I missing something?

You can try to do like below:

    In the menu of Allegro,
    Shape>Global Dynamic Shape Prams...
In Shape fill panel, set the Dynamic fill to Smooth. OK.

In version 15, there is only WYSIWYG, ROUGH or DISABLED for fill params.

See the attached pix of the problem. Where you see the DRCs is where the dynamic fill did not void the circuits not associated with the fill's net.

I really need to get this resolved so I can finish this board soon!

It looks like the shape is corrupt but here is some things to try:
(Make sure you have a backup copy of the design before doing this)

    1. Moving the shape totally outside of the board outline should cause it dynamically change back to a solid polygon.

    2. Verify that you do not have multiple shapes on top of each other. This can be done with Display > Element on the Boundary n Boundary subclass associated with this layer.

    3. Run DBDOCTOR (Database Check) on the design with "Check Shape Outlines" checked.

    4. Generate a sub-drawing (clipboard) of the shape in question using File > Export > Sub-Drawing, delete the shape in the design and re-import the shape back into the design. Remember to check "Preserve Net Names" on shapes during sub-drawing generation.

    5. Regenerate the shape all together.

I remember the first couple releases of Allegro which had the Dynamic Shapes functionality had some issue where shapes would get corrupt or act really weird but since then they have been very stable.

    Hope this helps,

Maybe I should create something other than dynamic copper? I tried to manually "void" element, but because it is a dynamic copper, it is disallowed. Splitplane I believe is out of the question. Ideas ? Comments ?

Tried all that and now I am getting Allegro to crash while trying to define the shape.

Anybody want to take a crack at it?
